Traditionally India is known for its skills in various art forms. It varied from painting, drawings, sculpture, designing of clothing, hand embroidery, metal work design, jute designs, cotton work design etc.
Since thousands of years all these artists have contributed to glory of India and created the history. Many rulers and kings of this nation have supported them and all the artists prospered during their era. Because of their financial, moral, encouraging support artists in India and their counter parts across world created some of the master pieces. All these favourable conditions helped our nation achieve the huge exports of all the products made my expert and dept artists. That was one of the major sources of revenue till many years. It also spread the reputation of India as a central hub of all the handmade products with finest features and excellent crafting.
As time progressed, technical development took the front seat; maximum efforts were dedicated to finding new technology which can utilise the resources in better and efficient way. Along with that socio political changes were happening. It altered the course of ruling a country. Autocracy was finding it difficult to rule a nation; democracies was quickly replacing it with larger involvement of national forces elected by common public and were accountable for single penny they spent as it was public money. To support the increasing population with limited resources, it was getting mandatory for science protégée to develop the ways to achieve maximum with minimum inputs. This has resulted in machine revolution and technological large scale development. As time progressed the process got the pace.
These all things have resulted in absolute devastation for artist society. As autocracy was getting wiped out, grants were drying up. Artists were finding it difficult to take care of their bread and butter. Machines were replacing their manual labours absolutely. Machines provided lower cost and maximum output. Artists were putting their maximum efforts but their efforts were just not enough to fight against machines. This has caused the maximum people opting out of their legacy business and family profession of arts and crafts. This was continued on and on…
